This Book Banning Thing Has Gotten Out of Control

In the late 1980s, I sat on blankets inside my elementary school classroom watching several of the girls sob while clutching the same book. The class had been reading the classic children’s novel, Old Yeller, and gotten to where the main character — Travis — is forced to put down his rabid dog.
