Ryan, it’s always a pleasure to connect with another veteran. I think part of what’s hard in today’s culture is that we demonize anger when it can be a healthy response (say for instance against injustice or a parent’s anger in wanting to defend their child). Yet, as you describe with your roommates, it becomes default for them, but never okay for you (when you may have a right to be angry with them). we must always be careful not to swing to extremes. As we know from the military, there are times to endure and press on, but that shouldn’t come at the expense of processing out emotions. A strong male is one who can be angry at the right things, and compassionate enough to show his emotions.
