One of the things I didn’t include in the blog (because as a writer you have to know where to cut) is the data I studied behind rates of PTSD in countries with mandatory service versus those that don’t. Nations like Israel and Germany (prior to the dissolution of mandatory service) have significantly lower PTSD rates. The theory being that since everyone serves, they can relate to each other. I started studying spartan culture as well and how in order to even serve on a political seat you had to have served in combat first. It lead me down an interesting rabbit hole and perhaps a blog for another time.
Definitely interested in what you’re doing and would love to know a little more. DM me on twitter.
