Little boys HAVE to have heroes. It’s almost ingrained in our DNA. The question is whether we start painting Superman like Darth Vader, which—to some degree—we’ve done in the most recent Superman (see Man of Steel) movies. The pushback was intense too: “He wasn’t a hero. He didn’t stop to save people. He was selfish only caring about Lois Lane.”

Art does indeed imitate life, and like you I’m excited about my daughter getting all these empowering shows. Wonder Woman this year was damn near perfect… but part of what made it great was that Chris Pine got to be a hero too and embodied what a man who learns to sacrifice for the greater good looks like.

Thanks for a great read.
