Letters From Sledge: Ask Me Anything

I’ll write you a personalized article based on any advice/questions you ask

Famed author C. S. Lewis used to spend an average of two hours each morning writing handwritten letters to curious fans. Children would ask him questions about Narnia and the great lion Aslan. Aspiring writers would pick his mind about the finer points of storytelling. And skeptics would engage with him in Christianity.

Of the many writers who’ve influenced my career, writing style, and faith, Lewis remains in my Top Five. In fact, Lewis’s practice of inspiring others got me into writing. So when people have asked who’s inspired me and what my goal is as a writer, I’ve always responded, “I want to be the next C. S. Lewis.” From his thoughtfully worded essays to the way he treated others with kindness and dignity, it’s been a benchmark I’ve aspired to. His influence is part of why I don’t block anyone on Medium (except spammers) and do my best to respond to serious inquiries in the comments.

In our modern age, we’re consistently bombarded with unsolicited advice. Much of what we see in the media (and even popular articles on Medium) preys on our fears. Doom and gloom blogging makes money, gets claps, and pushes eyeballs to articles.

But does it help you?

Probably not. Given that there’s so much negativity and fear, I’d rather follow Lewis’s example and use my voice for good. I truly want to help the people on this platform find solace, an empathetic ear, and solicited advice that’s helpful, insightful, and deliberately worded. By writing these articles, I hope to catch many other people on Medium who have similar questions, struggles, or are looking for answers in the articles I produce.

So here’s how it’ll work:

  1. Write your question, struggle, or any topic you want covered in the comments below.
  2. Depending on the amount of questions and complexity, I’ll try to answer what I can and will continually come back here to discover new questions readers write.
  3. No topic is off limits. If you have a similar question or topic you want covered, just clap for the comment so it rises to the top.

I hope you’ll find this helpful because I’d rather be a benefit to the platform and not a detriment. Don’t fret, I’ll still produce my own “hot take” articles per the usual, but my goal is to make you — the reader — feel that you matter in a world that so often tells you the opposite.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Honor. Virtue. Perseverance.
