James, I think those of us who’ve been closest to death understand better than most the preciousness of life and the little mundane moments that make it so. When I pass wrecks where it’s apparent someone died, I often wonder if they knew it was their last day just as you did. Far too little do we reflect on how we’ll leave things that day, which is why I always make it a point to hug and kiss my wife and daughter just to let them know how grateful I am—even when I’m mad.
