I used to LOVE Karbach, Dave. Their Mother-In-Lager Dunkel was one of my favorite seasonal brews and they continually made solid beers. Hell, their Barn Burner was one of the best saisons out there and I don’t really like saisons. With the acquisition by ABI, I can tell you—without a doubt—the quality has suffered greatly. The removed some of their most popular and ambitious beers (like Barn Burner and Mother-in-Lager) and replaced them with abominations (like their Lemon Radler, a Leinenkugel knock off). ABI may be acquiring craft breweries, and that’s all fine, but they’re doing what they typically do—mass distro and less quality control. In effect, Jim Koch is right—they sold their soul to the devil.
