Hey Paul, I think maybe you inferred feelings that weren’t there about the President. Based on the interviews and my own writing I think it’s important to note I tried to explain that regardless of who’s CinC it invalidates soldiers on the battlefield and not an argument we want to get caught up in. We follow orders whether we disagree unless it violates the Constitution and the oath we were sworn to uphold (this includes presidential and congressional violations as well). I feel rewriting will only provide it a slant and is dishonest to the intellectual honesty of the piece especially given what men and women in uniform and fellow veterans shared with me.
Lastly, people misunderstand the “creative liar” in my bio when they read serious works like this I’ve written. However, those that follow my fiction, understand it. Instead of simply putting “Fiction writer” in my bio, I wanted to play with words and get people thinking. People ask often, which means I’ve struck that cord. It’s a way for them to check out my works of fiction in addition to pieces like this (at one point I was also a Top Writer in the fiction category here on Medium as well). As all fiction is made up stories using men and women’s creativity, it’s just another fun way of saying it.
Hope that clears up any misconceptions and thank you for your kind words and thoughts.
