Breaking My Silence About Medium

How much I make, the history/problems with the platform, and realistic solutions

I’ve never written about Medium as a platform.

Namely, this is because the Medium algorithm seems to serve up similar content regarding what you write and view. That hasn’t seemed to matter as of late. In fact, when the shake-up at Medium happened in May 2021, Verge reported how President Biden’s Medium account kept getting served up pornographic stories. According to a former Medium staffer working with the White House, “the first article recommended to him by Medium [was] ‘A is for After,’ which a sub-headline described as ‘a cuckold love story.’” It didn’t matter that the employee tried to modify the President’s recommendations, the algorithm still served up weird erotica.

In the same respect, I get served up a daily dose of how to grow my following (despite having 36,000 followers), how to make money on Medium, Medium tips and tricks, problems with Medium, complaints about Medium, how to hack Medium, and other bizarre stories like erotica and drinking another man’s urine (the latter I had to click on but will spare you and not link to the piece).
